Dog-friendly beaches in Tuscany

Sand, sun and surf for your four-legged friend

If you are planning a vacation, you may be thinking that man's best friend will also need complicated or expensive accommodation while you are getting a suntan.
On the contrary: as long as your pet has a passport and is up to date with his vaccinations, Tuscany is generally a very hospitable place for your furry friends.

Regional Law 59 stipulates that dogs may enter outdoor public places accompanied by their owners and on a leash, including beaches.
Not all beaches are the same, however: certain stretches of coastline are designed specifically to make dogs feel good - spaces where they can socialize, swim and run loose while you enjoy the typical summer atmosphere and the company of your best canine friend.

In Livorno, there are two dog-friendly beaches, Felciaio Beach in Ardenza and Cabianca Beach, located on Viale Antignano, right after the steps leading to the sea.
These areas do not have any shade and lifeguard services and running water is only available at Felciaio.
Owners are responsible for the welfare of pets and for providing the necessary equipment for their pets.

San Vincenzo has another 200-meter beach designed specifically for your dog to enjoy. The Dog Beach is a puppy's dream come true: no hourly limitations for swimming in the sea, space to roam around (always within the boundaries of the designated area), an ample supply of water (without salt) for when he is thirsty and no limit on friends to be found. Dogs of all sizes and breeds are allowed; the “golden rule” is that aggressive behavior is not tolerated, so keep this in mind in case your furry friend tends to be unsettled around other dogs.

Cecina also offers two Bow-wow Beaches, one to the north - Gorette - and one to the south - Fosso Nuovo - where access to the pet beach is allowed and regulated.

Island of Elba

The Island of Elba’s first dog beach was located in the hamlet of Mola, at Porto Azzurro.
The Dog Beach Mola, located near a wetland area used for mooring by numerous small boats, stretches for more than 500 meters and is characterized by white pebbles with small brown stones and a fine sandy seabed.
Deckchairs and sun loungers, beach umbrellas and free parking are available; if you are looking for an uncrowded dog beach with plenty of room to stretch out, this is the one.

Maremma

In the heart of the wild Maremma, the beach and campground of La Feniglia di Orbetello has a dedicated area for dogs - the Spanish-inspired beach of Playa del Can.
Owners may bring a maximum of two furry friends per person and there is a dedicated bathing area marked by buoys. Shaded spaces and plenty of water are always available.

Versilia

For those who so find themselves spending a vacation in Versilia, Marina di Torre del Lago can welcome dogs and their owners on a spacious free beach that is very popular with our furry friends, who can also enter the water!
