When planning a family vacation it is often hard to balance very different needs. The variety of beaches and activities waiting to be experienced between land and sea makes the Etruscan Coast an ideal destination for families with children and teenagers looking for sporting experiences and fun.
The Quercetano Bay in Castiglioncello and its coves with crystal clear water, has a sandy beach set between two cliffs. As well as divers and snorkelers, the area attracts numerous young people in the evening, when the promontory comes alive with the lights of restaurants and aperitif bars.
Starting with Rosignano, bathing establishments alternate with free beaches, dog beaches and stretches equipped for sports in the waves. At Marina di Cecina, there is fun for everyone at the Acqua Village water park! In the evening, the seafront becomes a favorite hangout for teenagers, while families can stroll among the stalls and children's entertainment shows.
The Tomboli Nature Reserve has a network of trails perfect for cycling even for young children, with stops for discovering the plant and animal life in the arboretum. A revitalizing space in which you can let your children run free, with small tables for playing cards or eating in the cool of the pine forest. The Giardino Sospeso (Suspended Garden) Adventure Park in Riparbella is a few kilometers from the sea and offers acrobatic paths for children and teenagers, instinctive shooting archery exercises and a green area equipped with picnic tables and barbecues.
Castagneto Carducci attracts families thanks to a beach with a sandy seabed and shallow water. You can't miss a day at the Cavallino Matto Amusement Park, with attractions for kids and adrenaline-pumping activities for older children! The San Vincenzo well-equipped shoreline is ideal for a relaxing vacation, even with your dog. You can alternate restful hours under the beach umbrella with walks along the seafront, until you reach the Sailor, a sculpture by Giampaolo Talani: did you know that stroking the little fish at the foot of this statue brings good luck?
The Rimigliano Park lies between San Vincenzo and Piombino: the shallow water means you can swim safely while admiring the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and the children can rest or play in the cool pine forest in the warmer hours. Inside the park, a fitness trail, also accessible to the disabled, has 18 stations for various levels of difficulty.
South of the Val di Cornia, water sports in the sea are concentrated in the Gulf of Baratti, a wide bay overlooked by the ancient Etruscan city of Populonia. Between the clear blue water and archeological areas beyond the beach, you can enjoy windsurfing and kitesurfing and you can rent boats, inflatable boats and canoes, or participate in sailing and diving courses . During the summer, the Baratti and Populonia Archeological Park museum system organizes guided tours, theater performances and educational workshops on experimental archeology.
The Sterpaia Coastal Park is a wild environment: the protected area runs alongside a free beach that slopes towards a crystal clear sea, perfect for young children. Tombolos of sand extend to a vast forest of centuries-old trees, with small kiosks for eating and special walkways accessible to disabled people that reach the sea. Not far from the coast, the inland villages come alive in summer with a rich program of events for all ages!
