For lovers of sports and outdoor activities, Tuscany offers numerous events that give you an opportunity to lose yourself in the beauty of the landscape and urban areas in a healthy and fun way. Let's find out about a few events not to be missed in 2024.
On foot or by bicycle, the paths that run through the forests and villages are wonderful in the fall months, partly thanks to the colors of the foliage.
On the first Sunday in October, the Eroica takes place in Gaiole in Chianti. It is one of the best-known events for both cyclists and non-cyclists: a race made up of vintage bicycles, retro clothes, gravel roads and marvelous Tuscan landscapes, from the Chianti Senese area to Val d'Orcia.
The first edition of the Terre di Pisa Bike Trail, a cycling event suitable for Gravel bikes and MTB, sets off from the San Rossore Park, with a circular itinerary of more than 500 km, through cities, villages, hills and mountain trails in the Terre di Pisa area.
If you want to explore the Lunigiana landscapes on two wheels, Castagna Bike offers 9 road, gravel, MTB and trail routes. Not forgetting the Castagna Kids for children and the Chestnut Party.
History and nature enthusiasts can choose a slow-paced route allowing them to discover the landscapes along gravel roads and paths - moving through the most striking places in Tuscany - along the Via Francigena: In October, Siena hosts the World Francigena Ultra Marathon, the first European ultramarathon at a trekking and Nordic walking pace.
At the end of September, the Mugello Marathon takes place among green hills and ancient villages with picturesque views. It is the most ancient marathon in Italy, allowing you to run through the valley and be amazed by the beauty of its nature.
If you enjoy sports among the olive groves in the countryside, we recommend the Chianti Classico Ecomarathon that takes place in Castelnuovo Berardenga, where the natural beauty of the territory fits perfectly with the local food and wine culture.
The national urban trekking day in Siena in late October is an absolute must. Urban trekking is a gentle, low-impact sport, suitable for all ages and seasons.
It is a different way of getting to know the territory, away from the most popular circuits and in a more sustainable way.
Also on the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, fall is all about the outdoors. As part of the Vivere il Parco (Living the Park) program of events, you will find captivating scheduled trekking excursions to the Island of Elba, Capraia, Giannutri and Isola del Giglio.
