Livorno by boat

An accessible and enchanting ride through the city's canals

Livorno by boat leads visitors along the Medici canals where you can catch a glimpse of some of the city’s loveliest treasures from the mid-nineteenth century.
From Piazza della Repubblica, you’ll pass under a bridge connecting the two parts of city and reach the picturesque Rione dell’Ovo Sodo. From there, don’t miss gliding along the Fosso Reale toward the historic Mercato Centrale, considered one of Europe’s most beautiful covered markets. Livorno is a hub of international culture and its neo-gothic temple created by the Dutch Congregation bears witness to this fact.

While in the city, you’ll also want to visit its ancient fortresses, naval shipyard and the Medici port. And don’t miss a trip to its Venice district; this area, located in the heart of the Livorno, was created at the beginning of the 18th century.

Nestled right behind the port, it was founded to facilitate trade. Its numerous canals, bridges and waterside homes showcase the commercial and maritime flair that has always characterized the city.
