Vacations in the nature of Valdarno

Outdoor sports, walks or relaxation by the lake

Valdarno
by  Valdarno

Valdarno is certainly a fascinating destination for those who want to get in touch with nature without straying too far from the comforts of the cities. Thanks to the Arno River flowing through the valley, every town is surrounded by lush vegetation: from the gentle countryside with its hills adorned with vineyards and olive groves, through small forests, to the characteristic landscape of the Balze and the mountainous area of the Apennines, dominated by Pratomagno.

In addition to the best-known and best-loved places in the area, such as the Balze and Pratomagno and the pleasant walks along the Valdambra trails, there are numerous parks and waterways that make it possible to spend time relaxing or doing outdoor activities. Let's find out which ones they are.

A short distance from the center of Cavriglia is San Cipriano Lake, an artificial water basin created by the construction of the dam of the same name. It is a perfect place for fishing and sailing lovers: here it is possible to play sport fishing or take a boat ride on the lake, or simply relax reading a book in peace along its shores.

Along the banks of the Arno

In San Giovanni Valdarno and Montevarchi it is possible to take pleasant walks or bicycle rides along the banks of the Arno River, immersing oneself in nature and enjoying relaxing moments in the river environment. The routes are easy and suitable for everyone. At Montevarchi it is also possible to stop on the small pebble beach along the river bank and cool your feet in the waters of the Arno.

Capuchin Park and Rita Levi Montalcini Walk

A short walk from the historic center of Montevarchi, in the Pestello area, begins a beautiful walk that leads to the Capuchin Convent: a pleasant walk surrounded by greenery along the hill overlooking the city. Along the way, it is possible to make stops to admire the panorama of the city from above and the Pratomagno background. At the top of the hill, next to the church of San Lorenzo inside the Capuchin complex, there is a majestic 16th-century holm oak tree. Continuing a little further into the grove, one can finally reach the concrete cross.

In Cavriglia, in a park surrounded by greenery and not far from the city center, is the Bellosguardo Circuit, an outdoor gym but also a beautiful art park. In addition to the possibility of taking a walk or a bicycle ride, or jogging, it is possible to relax among the greenery and admire the beautiful works of art within the park.

Starting from the center of Terranuova Bracciolini, one can drive along a road through the peaceful Valdarno countryside to Setteponti. This is a little traffic road, perfect for cycling, allowing you to admire a characteristic rural landscape with vineyards and grazing sheep. Along the way, it is possible to make small detours to the hamlets of Terranuova Bracciolini, such as Traiana, Cicogna and Campogialli.

Sometimes, it is really the lesser-known places that add a special value to a vacation, making it even more enjoyable.
