A loop through nature in the Fucecchio Marsh

An oasis of biodiversity to be discovered by bicycle

The Padule di Fucecchio (Fucecchio Marsh) is Italy's largest inland marsh, extending over about 2,000 hectares and home to more than 200 species of birds, as well as a very rich plant life.
The network of paths allows people to experience this oasis of biodiversity and carry out activities such as birdwatching, hiking and bike tours.

The loop is about 20 km long and extends along dirt roads, river banks and, just for a few hundred meters, on asphalt.
The starting point is the Dogana del Capannone, a building that served as a customs house, warehouse and boat depot from 1500, as well as the site of civilian dwellings and shops; today it contains the center of documentation on the Padule di Fucecchio Massacre

As you travel along the route, as well as the typical wetland nature, you may also encounter stilt houses, tabernacles and buildings designated for a variety of uses, such as the Tabaccaia (tobacco shed), once used for drying tobacco leaves.

In the Righetti Area, the northernmost part of the Padule di Fucecchio Nature Reserve, which is accessible only on a guided tour, there are two wildlife observatories for admiring a wide variety of water birds during spring migration.
