From Colle Val d'Elsa to San Gimignano by bike
A sun-kissed land to explore by bike: in this itinerary we will cross some of the most beautiful towns and localities in Tuscany.
We leave from the center of Colle Val d'Elsa in Piazza Arnolfo di Cambio heading north, taking the bike path that connects Colle val d'Elsa to Poggibonsi. After about a kilometer, we turn left and follow the signs for Strada di Vallebuona, with the roadbed becoming unpaved. Once we reach the provincial road, in Bibbiano, we make a right-end turn and at the next fork we again turn right, following the signs for Poggibonsi (and not for San Gimignano). After one kilometer, at the height of a small-sized chapel, we will turn left in the direction of Pietrafitta, taking a scenic dirt road through the olive trees that will take us to San Gimignano, avoiding the busiest road.
After visiting the town of towers with a tour of the walls included, we leave in the direction of Castel San Gimignano - Volterra. We ride along a valley road where we recommend we take the short detour to San Donato, a medieval village with a beautiful Romanesque parish church. When we reach the village of Castel San Gimignano, we turn left as far as Colle Val d'Elsa (11.2 kilometers) on State Road 68 passing through Campiglia dei Foci.
