Cycling through the fortified villages of Montalbano
Fortified villages and picturesque landscapes characterize the slopes of Montalbano in Valdinievole. This loop itinerary offers an opportunity to discover the area and its history. In fact, we will visit the medieval village of Larciano Castello and delve into its history through the archeological finds displayed in the Civic Museum.
The itinerary sets off from Larciano Castello, leaving the village through Porta San Marco and following CAI Trail 826, which takes you through olive groves and offers panoramic views of Monsummano, Montevettolini and the Monti Pisani mountains.
Continuing on, you come to Cecina, a picturesque fortified village ideal for taking a break and catching your breath. From here, a climb begins and leads to the locality of Case di Monte. Immediately after, the route turns right and joins Trail 800, the path that crosses the Montalbano ridge.
Moving on, you come to the slopes of Poggio Albano (418 m) and move past Mungherino. A short time after, you go around Poggio Le Murielle (442 m) and take CAI Trail 822. Descending along this path, you will soon be back in Larciano Castello.
