Exploring the Valdinievole by bike from Pistoia
The itinerary starts at Piazza Duomo in Pistoia (Cathedral Square), in which you will find the altare argenteo (silver altar) and the only relic of Saint James in the world, outside of Santiago de Compostela.
The route follows the Cammino di San Jacopo (Way of St. James), leaving the city and crossing several nurseries.
The Montalbano mountain range looms on the horizon and, after going past the holm oak woods and olive groves adorning the mountain, we descend to Larciano, reaching the Padule di Fucecchio marsh.
The route climbs up along the banks of the Pescia River to the town of the same name and continues across a low mountain territory, running along the Alta Via (High Route) of the Valdinievole.
After going past the village of Montecatini Alto, which is well worth visiting, we descend into the valley and once again reach the Cammino di San Jacopo (Way of St. James) that, when traveled along in reverse, is about 16 kilometers from Pistoia.
