Lake Puccini by bike

Between sea and pine forests through Viareggio, toward Lake Massaciuccoli

Along this route we will ride between the sea and pine forests in Viareggio, in the direction of Torre del Lago and of the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli. It is here that stands Villa Puccini, an Art Nouveau building where the famous composer lived.

Leaving Viareggio station, we keep slightly to the right and take Via 20 Settembre heading toward the sea, where we take the cycle route turning left onto the waterfront. On our right we see some beautiful Art Nouveau buildings, including the Margherita café, the Duilio 48 bazaar and the Balena Bathhouse.

We pass the canal port and continue straight ahead to enter the Lecciona pine forest, walking along Viale dei Tigli. If we prefer to continue on asphalt we go straight on, otherwise at the first traffic light we turn right on a path and shortly after turn lef to take a beautiful dirt path that crosses the entire Lecciona pine forest, a very fascinating natural oasis.

When we reach the paved road, we take a left onto the avenue that leads toward the center of Torre del Lago, past the railroad underpass and we continue toward Lake Massaciuccoli, where Villa Puccini stands, with memories of the great musician, and where a large open-air theater has been built, a structure that can seat more than 3,000 people and that offers a very interesting summer program of concerts and operas.

We then return to the Torre del Lago train station, where we can board a train with bike service to return to Viareggio.
