Lake Santa Luce and Livorno Hills
Starting in the Terre di Pisa, this route will take us through the Livorno Hills, passing by Lake Santa Luce and reaching waterfalls and seaside villages.
After passing through the villages of Crespina and Fauglia, we enter the province of Livorno at Collesalvetti. We will then face the Livorno Hills among the vineyards of Nugola and then reach Parrana San Martino.
After riding close to the Acquedotto Leopoldino, a short descent will take us to the Regional Road 206, which we will ride for a short distance in the direction of Cecina until we reach the junction for Valle Benedetta. Then, leaving the Astronomical Observatory on our right, we will climb for about 3 kilometers reaching Gabbro and Castelnuovo della Misericordia. From here we will descend again on the Regional Road 206, which we will leave again to re-enter the province of Pisa and the Nature Reserve Lipu of Lake Santa Luce, which we will leave behind as we climb to the villages of Pastina, Pomaia and Castellina Marittima.
A few more kilometers, slightly uphill in the shade of chestnut trees, and we will reach the highest and most panoramic point of the route with a view that sweeps from the Lake, to the Tyrrhenian Sea, to Monte Serra and the hills of the Terre di Pisa... a succession of downhill curves will then lead us, after about 8 kilometers, to the bottom of the valley of the Carbonaia stream and the Ghiaccione Waterfalls and then reach Chianni after a short but steep climb.
A few more kilometers and Casciana Terme will be there waiting for us with its thermal baths and cafes for a well-deserved break.
