On the roads of the 2013 world championship
This route connects Mugello with Florence. It is therefore a highly recommended route for those who would like to visit the city getting there by bike. But it is also a route that allows you to try your hand at some of the most spectacular and challenging kilometers of the route of the 2013 Road Cycling World Championship (5.5 kilometers from Fiesole to the top of the Via Salviati climb).
The route covers a total of 56.7 kilometers for an elevation gain of nearly 1.000 meters and is therefore a route suitable for many: the only warning is that you need to still be able to cope with stretches of challenging climbing.
Above all, you need to be fit enough to tackle the short but intense effort of the Via Salviati climb, 700 meters with peaks of almost 20%, and therefore you need to have a light bike with very agile gears (34/26, 39/29 or similar).
The route is decidedly shady in its first half, while it is much more exposed in the second. Finally, the traffic volume is average to insense, but acceptable: however, you need to be very careful in the urban center of Fiesole and on Via Salviati, which is always very crowded.
