Patent 6 passes Mugello east
This route covers a large part of the territory of the Mugello and Upper Mugello, with a small encroachment in Emilia-Romagna, and gives you an idea of the area. The route, about 136 kilometers long with an elevation gain of almost 2,800 meters, passes by almost all the main villages of Mugello and Upper Mugello. However, it requires trained cyclists with at least 2,000 kilometers in their legs and willing to ride a bike for many hours. In return, you will enjoy a marvellous landscape and passes over some of the most remote areas in the territory, such as the Paretaio Pass, the Hermitage Pass and the Peschiera Pass, which introduce you to the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Falterona and Campigna.
You also need to tackle two famous and challenging climbs, such as the Giogo Pass of Scarperia and the Muraglione Pass. Four out of the six climbs exceed 9 kilometers and even if the slopes hardly ever exceed 10% and for the harder ramps a 39/25 or compact equivalent is sufficient, you need to use light ratios to ensure a reserve of energy.
It is essential to carry a minimum of spare parts because outside Borgo San Lorenzo there are no services for cyclists. Watch out for traffic on the Giogo Pass and Muraglione Pass roads (especially motorcycles) and in the Mugello valley floor.
