Pistoia and its hills

In search of panoramic views: from Piazza del Duomo, the heart of the city of Pistoia, to the hills.

An itinerary suitable for everyone, which starts from Piazza del Duomo and reaches the hills north of Pistoia, passing through the villages of Germinaia, Iano, Villa di Baggio and Cignano, on the traces of the ancient Via Baiana, which connected the city to northern Italy.

The itinerary, mostly paved but with fun dirt passages, is ideal for spending a pleasant half-day e-bike ride.

Leaving the historic town center of Pistoia behind us, we head into the hills north of Pistoia, among olive groves and manor houses, most notably Villa Sbertoli. The climb takes us to the hamlet of Germinaia. After a break on the scenic terrace, we restart and ride along easy but scenic ups and downs through woods and hillside villages.

At Villa di Baggio we then take the dirt track until we get onto the paved road that runs along the Bure Stream which, in ancient times, was full of water mills and related hydraulic works, some of which are still recognizable today.

We finish the loop-shaped ride with a beautiful passage from the hill of Sant'Alessio before setting off toward Piazza del Duomo.
