Riding to discover the slopes of the Amiata around Grosseto

A tour among the beautiful landscapes that the mountain offers
by  Amiata

Although this route is fairly short, the elevation profile includes continuous changes in slope. We ride on roads with little traffic, and the views are among the most beautiful the mountain have to offer.

We start in Roccalbegna and, immediately after the bridge over the waters of the Albegna, begin to climb toward Triana where the gradient increases again and continue in the direction of Arcidosso on the hairpin bends that lead to the pass (900 m a.s.l.) before riding without roughness to the Aiole locality (16.8), where the descent begins with some technical curves to Arcidosso (20). From here, follow the signs for Cinigiano.

Near the Coop supermarket we keep to the left riding slightly uphill on the Provincial Road 7. After about 2 km the road descends sharply to the bridge over the Zancona stream (1.9 km) and then climbs again to the junction for Salaiola: continue riding in the direction of Grosseto for 2.5 km toward Monticello Amiata (29.8). From the village, located in a panoramic position towards the Amiata and Val d'Orcia, continue following the signs for Cinigiano and Paganico on the Provincial Road 7. After exactly 3 km downhill, leave the Provincial Road 7 by bending left onto the Provincial Road 55 towards Vallerona and Stribugliano.

After 1.6 km of valley course we reach the small village of Castiglioncello Bandini (34.5) where the 3,5-km climb to Stribugliano (38) begins. After crossing the village, go downhill for about 1 km, climb uphill for 1 km and then you let go along the 6 km of predominantly downhill terrain to the junction with the Provincial Road 24 with a T-junction: turn left toward Vallerona and Roccalbegna facing the climb to Santa Caterina (50.6). At the T-junction turn left onto the Provincial Road 160 towards Arcidosso and begin the beautiful descent to Roccalbegna (54).
