The ascent of the Vestito Pass

A great road cycling classic for all on two wheels

This road route offers a classic cycling experience to be enjoyed by all on two wheels. It offers the possibility of being tackled in either direction, thus allowing full enjoyment of one of the most striking views in Tuscany.

The road of the Vestito Pass offers breathtaking views, both during the ascent that requires some physical exertion and during the descent with the wind caressing your face. So extraordinary is the view that it’s quite a struggle to fully describe. From the peaks of the Apuan Alps, the gaze is lost in the immensity of the sea, creating a sense of infinity.

Peeling yourself away from the waterfront, head straight for Massa. Once past the town, begin the long and steady climb that takes you up to the Coppi summit of the Vestito Pass at an altitude of 3412 feet (1040 meters). Be ready to turn on your lights because here begins the long, narrow tunnel (at 2297 feet or 700 meters in length) that takes you to the other side of Mount Pelato, where your long descent back down begins, interspersed with the second tunnel of the day (the Cipollaio tunnel at 3609 feet or 1100 meters in length). Return to the coast at the peak of Forte dei Marmi, where you’ll turn right to follow the bike path along the sea to your starting point.

Important: It is recommended to travel the route on non-working days (holidays and weekends) to avoid the traffic of trucks transporting marble. Remember you will need lights to be used in the two galleries.
