The Ciclostorica Medicea

An itinerary that stops at the most significant places in the Montalbano area
by  Prato Area

The path of the Ciclostorica Medicea has in the village of Carmignano the centerpiece of its itinerary, from here it starts and returns in a loop that explores the entire Montalbano area exhaustively and stretches into the Pistoia area.

Departing from Carmignano, among roads that are always very bucolic, we encounter the towns of Comeana and Stazione; from here a very challenging climb begins, reaching Poggio alla Malva and then the beautiful village of Artimino, with the splendid Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda, and then returning to Carmignano through the Via Arrendevole, also with significant but short slopes.

Once back in Carmignano you go through the town continuing uphill and afterwards in the direction of Bacchereto; from here you cross the lands of some farms that produce the prestigious Carmignano DOCG and then head towards Quarrata, where you can visit the garden of Villa La Magia.

From here on, except for a short stretch on a road, you follow the bank of the Stella stream (unpaved) passing through the Natural Area La Querciola. The route continues turning into the bank of the Ombrone until the beautiful park of the Cascine di Tavola.

The last climb from Poggio a Caiano – where you can visit the marvellous Villa Medicea - in Carmignano is not very demanding.
