The Oia valley by bicycle
The Oia valley, which descends directly from the slopes of the Falterona, is not only a place of memory for historical events related to the Resistance, but also one of the most pleasant places in Casentino.
We start from the hamlet of Santo Stefano following the provincial road 310 along the Staggia stream for a couple of kilometers, then take a dirt road to the left where a long but steady climb begins (over 800 m of elevation gain), not too challenging if tackled at a steady pace.
The trail is almost always shaded so it is feasible even on hot days.
We pass by a series of hamlets dotting the left side of the Oia stream, and then we enter the woods and climb up until we pass close to Monte Tufone and reach Monte Giogarello, which at 1351 meters is the "Cima Coppi" of our tour.
The road begins to descend and, after a very steep and technical section (be careful), the road begins to make better use of the contour lines until it takes us to the bottom of the Oia valley, where a splendid dirt road begins that, following the stream, will take us back to our starting point.
