The Verde Valley, in the heart of the Appennines in Pontremoli
The Verde Valley route is definitely one of the most challenging among those in the Lunigiana Bike Area. From Piazza Italia, in Pontremoli, proceed in the direction of the Lunezia sports field and then arrive in the hamlet of Casa Corvi after 2 km. From here you continue towards the hamlet of Bassone where a long dirt climb of almost 9 km begins with an average gradient of 8,5%. After 13 km you reach the highest point of the route (1185 m asl) and from here begins a long descent to the locality Villa Andreetti. Turning left always downhill after the 20th km you reach the village of Cervara where the road climbs again towards Lago Verde and the Verde stream. Beautiful unspoiled places among woods and streams.
At the 26th km we face a short but steep descent that from the end of the dirt road will make the Verde stream bed. Not far from this point, going up the stream, we reach the beautiful Verde waterfall with its icy water even in the middle of summer.
Past the stream we arrive at the locality Farfarà, which is only 2 km from the fork for Fontana Gilenta (frozen fountain) from where the long descent to Pontremoli begins. The first 5 km are on dirt road and the remaining 11 on asphalt. Along this descent you pass through the villages Monti di Guinadi, Baselica and Guinadi, before finding Casa Corvi again and returning to Pontremoli after 44.1 km and 1576 m of elevation gain.
The route is part of the Lunigiana Bike Area and fully marked with the number 11.
