Valdinievole thermal springs circular route
A circular itinerary that starts in Montecatini Terme, one of the UNESCO cities on "The Great Spa Towns of Europe" circuit, and arrives at Grotta Giusti, Europe's largest thermal cave.
The itinerary starts at the Montecatini spa complex, with the historic buildings of Terme Tettuccio, Terme Redi and the thermal gardens.
After the visit, we set off for Montecatini Alto on Trail 239A, known as "Via Crucis". Upon reaching the residential area, you will immediately notice the remains of fortifications, like the Clock Tower. From the village, you walk across the CAI 240 path, which passes through Pieve a Nievole and leads to Monsummano Alto. Here, on the CAI 832 path, you cross the quarry area and proceed to Grotta Giusti. The Grotta Giusti Thermal SPA Resort complex includes a cave stretching more than 200 m underground, with stalactites and stalagmites, among which visitors can relax and benefit from the therapeutic vapors.
Returning to the route, we pass the Rossa (Red), Bianca (White), Grigia (Gray) and Grande (Big) quarries before reaching Monsummano Terme. After a stroll through the town, we continue on our way and walk across the section of the Cammino di San Jacopo, a route leading to Montecatini Terme.
