Woods and Lake - the Fucecchio marsh
Our itinerary starts from the center of Villa Basilica and gently leads you to Collodi, thanks to a relaxing and only slightly sloping downhill of about 4.3 miles (7 kilometers). Having passed Via Pesciatina, you plunge into the tranquility of the surrounding countryside until coming to the beginning of a challenging climb that leads right to the center of Montecarlo. This medieval hilltop village overlooks vineyards and numerous wineries in the area.
After exploring Montecarlo, continue your journey and, after about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers), reach the Padule di Fucecchio (Fucecchio Marsh). Here, stop to admire the beauty of the lake that lies at the center of this protected area, a true natural jewel. Then it’s back on the bike to pedal the flat 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) back to the hills near Collodi, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, finally ending the tour by returning to Villa Basilica.
The route travels along 38.5 miles (61.8 kilometers) of paved roads and 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) of dirt roads.
