3 things to do from Sovicille to Ponte d'Arbia

A route to enjoy the views and flavours of the area

What makes the perfect day out?
The fact that it's able to satisfy everyone's desires, needs and curiosities, from the oldest to the youngest member of the family. For example, a jouney that combines the flavour of discovery with the flavour for the palate, just like this short itinerary that we propose.

It goes from Sovicille to Ponte d'Arbia, through a magical corner of the Crete Senesi, where the undisputed protagonists are golden hilly landscapes, typical gastronomical products and objects of artistic interest.
The churches and chapels along the road represent a unique and enviable artistic and monumental heritage, difficult to describe in words.
Each stage is also an opportunity to discover, and most importantly taste, the typical gastronomic products of the area, which complete this itinerary in the best possible way.

Leg 1
Sovicille

Our itinerary starts from Sovicille to discover a raw material of humble origins: clay.
In this area, a galaxy made of clays, the route leads to the discovery of the vast range of amphorae, vases and dishes in the peasant tradition.

This land, which is rich in primary material, is also home to many artists who, in turn, have set up workshops and factories where one can buy oil jars, water jugs, laundry basins and other everyday items.

Leg 2
Monteroni d'Arbia

What can we say about artisanal dairy products? They are real delicacies, all made in Tuscany. The countryside surrounding Monteroni d’Arbia is perfect for anyone looking for authentic products like pecorino cheese from the Sienese hills, one of the most well know Tuscan cheeses. The manufacture of dairy products has been handed down from generation to generation and production owes itself to the herds that roam the Sienese hills. At the foot of a hill, among beautiful monuments, small farms and well-kept fields, cows are reared for meat and milk that is of the highest quality. Here it is possible to not only try the rural delicacies but to buy them too.

As well as traditional Sienese pecorino, you can also try other products, like yogurt, ricotta, truffle cheese, enriched in vats or with nuts.

Leg 3
Ponte d'Arbia

Now on the route of the Via Francigena, you'll gaze at ruined castles, mills and chapels, symbols of an area that, in many ways, is still ancient and immersed in its popular traditions.

Going towards Ponte d’Arbia you can admire Siena, sprawled across the hills in the horizon, and Grancia di Cuna, an ancient fortified granary, as well as churches and chapels, the other historical attractions along the route.
