Florentine locations, open-air sets of one of the most-watched TV series: "My Brilliant Friend"
The beautiful sights of Pisa provided the setting for the second season of the popular TV series L'Amica geniale, based on Elena Ferrante's tetralogy of the same name. The story of Elena (Lenù), Lila and their friendship between love and rivalry is full of events that lead the two protagonists to make some very difficult choices.
For the third season (under the direction of Daniele Lucchetti), Florence plunged back into the 1970s to host the filming of the series, which instead began with a glimpse of the 1950s in the neighborhoods of Naples.
The third season Storia di chi fugge e di chi resta shows the two friends in the midst of their maturity and, to narrate Lenù's events, starting with the fourth episode takes us to the historic town center of Florence, where she moves, after graduating and publishing a novel, to marry Pietro, a young university professor.
Among the city's landmarks, here are the locations related to this internationally successful TV series.
Passing by the church of Orsanmichele on Via dei Calzaiuoli, Elena thinks over n how caged she feels in her relationship and arrives at Piazza di Santa Croce, where her temptation to "unravel" grows stronger and stronger. Surrounded by elegant 16th-century buildings and dominated by the church of the same name with the majestic statue of Dante Alighieri next to it, this beautiful square becomes the setting for various moments in the drama.

A splendid and iconic square overlooked by Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of civil power, and the famous Loggia dei Lanzi, Piazza della Signoria appears before the viewers' eyes just like a postcard. Here Lenù and Pietro arrive on the important day of their wedding. Before entering the palace, they park their 600 car debating one of the hot topics of the time: the contraceptive pill. In the following scene, they exchange their wedding rings in the red room of the Palazzo Vecchio. What for Lenu was a dream of emancipation from her own family is now a dream come true.

The 1970s atmosphere of the series also invaded the heart of the City of Lily, Piazza Duomo. Dominated by the magnificence of the cathedral, Giotto's bell tower and the baptistery of San Giovanni, the extras in costume and vintage cars enlivened the square during filming. In particular, the feminist demonstrations in which Elena takes part with her two little girls take place here.

The fourth season is marked by the return of Nino Sarratore in Elena's life. They and their respective families visit the Stibbert Museum together, wandering among paintings, weapons and ancient armors. The two childhood friends reconnect in a new way, disrupting the lives of both.
Remaining in Tuscany, some scenes of Elena and her family's summer vacation are shot at a beach resort in Viareggio, to the tune of Raffaella Carrà.
