Discovering one of the ten castella of Svizzera Pesciatina
San Quirico is one of the ten fortified villages, known as Castella, located in one of the most beautiful areas of Valdinievole, the Valleriana or Svizzera Pesciatina, near Pescia.
The itinerary we propose starts from San Quirico, on the eastern slope of Mount Battifolle, and, due to its short length and lack of difficulty, is suitable for everyone.
Leaving the village, we walk uphill along CAI Path 250 to the small country church of Madonna del Tamburino, where we can stop at a water source. Having resumed the walk, start descending on the ridge. After a few steps, turning left, we again intercept CAI Path 250, which leads back to the village.
San Quirico is renowned for its magnificent Romanesque church dedicated to Saints Quirico and Giuditta, which houses two valuable baptismal fonts. The Museum of Peasant Culture, inside the Il Frantoio agritourism complex, is worth visiting.
