The historical reenactment of late summer in Pontremoli

In the village of Pontremoli, in Lunigiana, among evocative landscapes, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year arrives at the end of August, on August 22-25: Medievalis, the historical reenactment celebrating the enchantment and mystery of the Middle Ages.

In fact, every year the event celebrates the granting of the diploma of Free Commune to the Community of Pontremoli by Emperor Frederick II in 1226. Frederick II in fact defined this village as clavis et ianua (key and gate) of communications between Lombardy and Tuscany, underlining the importance of Pontremoli in the Middle Ages.

During Medievalis, the city is transformed, with an entirely pedestrian historic center to make way for travellers, merchants, carriages, knights and figurants representing the various medieval social classes, including the clergy, the nobility, the military, the courtier and the peasant.

Many side events are organized thanks to the Compagnia del Piagnaro, with great attention to detail, from costumes to processions, from music to medieval banquets.

Medievalis transforms Pontremoli into an enchanted place where visitors can wander the streets of the historic center, truly feel part of another era, savor local specialties and rediscover ancient crafts.
