Hike to the Calignaia canyon
Trekking route of twelve kilometers with lunch on the beach and a swim in a naturalistic setting of great value
Excursion of great scenic value in one of the most beautiful stretches of the Livorno coast, along rugged paths immersed in the mediterranean maquis that open up into grandiose coastal views of the Tuscan Archipelago.
Starting from the parking lot in the little town of Castellaccio, we will head towards the maritime balcony of Poggio delle Monachine to admire some of the best views of the rocky coastline and the islands. We will then proceed towards the canyon on the Rio Calignaia, descending while observing the typical sandstone stratifications and the particular flora of the area. Passing by the ancient quarries, we will reach the Romito coast, where we will stop for lunch on the beach and enjoy a swim in a naturalistic setting of great value.
In the afternoon, we will return via a different path, passing by Monte Telegrafo and the Semaforo del Montaccio to observe other incredible coastal scenery.
The tour will take place on Sunday, June 30, departing at 9:00 am.

Meeting point
Plan
- Length: 12 kilometer
- Difficulty: Hiking, some steep EE sections and/or in riverbed, fords
- Height difference: 400 meters positive
- Trail type: loop, scenic, and historical interests
- What to bring: packed lunch, water 1.5 liters each, mandatory waterproof hiking or trail shoes, long pants, layered clothing (microfleece, windproof, shell or k-way), optional trekking poles, backpack and battery charger
- Dogs allowed: yes, to be communicated at booking to verify that the maximum number recommended for the excursion is reached
- Please notify the Guide of any medical conditions and/or use of life-saving medications
Cancellation
and no-show policies
The guide reserves the right to make changes to the hike to ensure the safety of the group, or to cancel the hike in case of bad weather and/or alertness.
The excursion will be confirmed upon reaching a minimum of 8 people (25 people maximum).
