Waterfalls of San Godenzo
Beautiful hiking loop near the Florentine gateway to the Casentino Forests and Campigna National Park
The San Godenzo valley is one of the richest in water in the entire Apennines and is considered the “Florentine gateway” to the Casentino Forests and Campigna National Park. However, the valley is also known because the famous Florentine Renaissance painter Andrea del Castagno was born here, hence the name of the hamlet of the same name.
The valley has picturesque forests interspersed with crops where water is the true common denominator; it is one of the richest in the Apennines. The steep slopes have been carved by streams whose sources are scattered all over, forming deep sandstone valleys. Mills and extensive farmsteads make up the traditional economic chain of the mountains.
We will admire the three main waterfalls that form in the shadow of the San Godenzo stream: Onda and Calabuia, with their jumps and beautiful potholes of the giants and Pretella where the more adventurous can take a truly wild swim!
The tour will take place on Sunday, July 21, starting at 09:30 am.
