Lake Porta, an oasis of nature

A green trail in one of the few areas on the coast where the original natural environment is preserved.

A short but pleasant loop around the Oasis of Lake Porta, starting from and ending in Cinquale, following the banks of the Versilia River and the Lake. You will have the opportunity to observe the bittern in the heron family, rare throughout Europe, and the large copper butterfly, also very rare and endangered. This is one of the few areas on the coast where the original natural environment is preserved. A place rich in history due to its proximity to the Via Francigena and the ancient Via Aurelia.

The route begins at the mouth of the Versilia River, which can be easily reached by bicycle from the north and south via the long coastal bicycle path connecting Viareggio to Marina di Massa. The trail runs almost entirely along the banks of the Versilia River and flanks the shores of the Lake Porta Wetlands, providing a day of immersion in nature.
