A summer billboard of theatre, music, dance, and cinema in an exceptional location.

Estate Fiesolana (Summer in Fiesole) is the oldest multidisciplinary outdoor festival in Italy, that began in 1911 with the first performance of classical theatre inside the Archaeological Area, and then became, in 1947, the true "container" of events called Summer in Fiesole.

Every summer, from June to September, its diverse program brings theatre, music, dance, and cinema performances to Fiesole, with national and international artists. The fascinating Roman Theatre is the main location of the festival, but a series of events are also set up in other prestigious and suggestive places in Fiesole and the surrounding area.

The Estate Fiesolana traditionally starts on June 21, on the occasion of the Festa della Musica, a cultural event celebrated worldwide.

Among the recurring events hosted on the stage of the Roman Theatre is the prestigious Fiesole Award for Masters of Cinema, awarded over the years to the greatest and most important international directors and actors, such as Luchino Visconti (1966), Michelangelo Antonioni (1968), Orson Welles (1974), Stanley Kubrick (1983), Ingmar Bergman(1988), Win Wenders (1994), Spike Lee (2007), Stefania Sandrelli (2016), just to name a few. The actual award ceremony is accompanied by a screening of the winner's films.
