Regnano is a small village located in the upper valley Aulella, precisely in the municipality of Casola in Lunigiana. Its origin is linked to the proximity of very ancient and busy routes; in fact, this must have been the place that connected the upper Lunigiana with Garfagnana, and then continued towards Emilia - Romagna.
The Castle, dating back to the 9th century, was owned by numerous nobles, first of all a Guiterno of the Longobard lineage who joined it to the church of Luni. Today it is a pile of rubble, but in the northeastern part of the settlement you can admire hanging farmyards and archivolts.
The most represented type of buildings in the village is the rural one with attached drying-room, oven and threshing floor. The most interesting complex can be dated back to the 18th century and consists of two L-shaped buildings, one of which comprises a 15th-century portal marked by a six-pointed rose on the lintel. There is also a 19th-century manor house, from where you can clearly see a fine view of the valley and the plan development of the church of Santa Margherita. Interesting for its two-nave partition, typical of religious buildings in Lunigiana, this church has reliable medieval remnants, namely the side walls, which describe a two- or three-nave room.
