Santo Pietro Belvedere

In the territory of Capannoli, the village of Etruscan origins is like an open-air museum

Santo Pietro Belvedere, the only fraction of the Municipality of Capannoli, stands on a hill whose highest point is the Parco della Castellina. Set on two tiers, games for children have been installed on the lower one, while on the highest portion, you'll find majestic trees that allow you to admire a stunning panorama.

The circular historic center of Santo Pietro Belvedere has the green Castellina Park at its heart, the highlight of the area. Piazza Belvedere has redeveloped and been made pedestrianized, and it's where you'll find the 'Equilibri in natura' sculptures, an open-air art exhibition whose works are also exhibited in the park of Villa Baciocchi.

In addition to enjoying unspoiled nature and indulging in a "food and wine" break among the restaurants and farmhouses, it's possible to visit the church of San Pietro. Built in medieval times, it was renovated to a design by Pietro Bernardini in the nineteenth century.

A wedding location

Today, Santo Pietro Belvedere, together with the Salone Nobile and the Park of Villa Baciocchi, is a place chosen by many to celebrate civil weddings. Say 'I do' in the intimate 'Gazebo of Lovers' or in the larger, but always upon reservation, Parco della Castellina, located at the top of the historic center.

The Etruscans in Valdera

Recent studies show the centrality of the Valdera and the Etruscan city of Santo Pietro Belvedere with respect to the lands dominated by the Etruscans after the fall of Capua by the Samnites. Not long ago, the municipal administration began a process, together with the Superintendency, to investigate this idea and has started a census of the ancient hypogea present in the historic center of Santo Pietro Belvedere and on the opposite hill of San Rocco, located in the capital.

At the Archaeological Museum of Villa Baciocchi in Capannoli, many artifacts found in the sites of Santo Pietro Belvedere and throughout the Valdera are exhibited.
