Sassofortino is a small village perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Metalliferous Hills, a few kilometers from Roccatederighi. Of medieval origin, its name is linked to the Castello di Sassoforte in the immediate vicinity, although there is no evidence for a correlation between the two.
The village is dominated by the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, of the 15th century, but rebuilt in neo-Gothic style following a 19th-century restoration. Through the village streets you can admire some splendid portals carved in rhyolite rock decorated with striking figurative motifs.
Surrounded by beautiful chestnut groves, the Chestnut Festival, the event that celebrates the flavors of autumn, is held every year between late October and early November.
