The Roberto Casamonti Collection is located on the main floor of the Renaissance-style Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni, a masterpiece of architect Baccio d'Agnolo, overlooking Via de' Tornabuoni in the center of Florence. The collection displays works of art from the private collection of gallery owner and art expert Roberto Casamonti.
It is one of the largest private exhibitions open to the public, bringing together two different nuclei, with works ranging from the early 20th century to the early 21st century. In particular, the first part goes until the 1960s and tells us about these early years of the 20th century through selected masterpieces by Giacomo Balla, Renato Guttuso, Max Ernst, Giò Pomodoro, Lucio Fontana, and Andy Warhol. The second part takes us through sculptures and paintings by contemporary artists such as Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Spoerri, Mario Schifano, and Bill Viola.
This collection represents the synthesis of the long activity in the field of art of Roberto Casamonti, who wanted to share with the city of Florence this important tale of the evolution of art in the last century.
